Our Next Concert:
We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Musical Director, Aljoša Škorja.
Aljoša "Josh" Škorja is a Slovenian conductor and musicologist, winner of the London Classical Soloists’ 2015 Conducting Competition.
Aljoša studied musicology and later choral conducting at the University of Ljubljana, before continuing his education as a postgraduate conducting student at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Clark Rundell. Other notable tutors include Sir Mark Elder, Juanjo Mena and Mark Shanahan. More recently, he has studied with Paul Nadler at the American Opera Academy, and assisted Paul during his tour in Eastern Europe.
During his time at RNCM Aljosa actively pursued his passion in opera, conducting several opera scenes and excerpts. He was also chosen by his tutor to conduct and direct RNCM’s production of Kiss me, Kate.
Apart from opera, Aljosa’s interests include historically informed performance. Originally an organist, growing up on a steady diet of Bach, Buxtehude and the French masters, he studied with Dalibor Miklavcic and took masterclasses with greats like Peter Playavsky, Françoise Espinasse, Lorenzo Ghielmi and Konstantin Reymaier.
Aljoša’s recent appearances include the Slovene National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra, Manchester Camerata and Leeds Baroque Musicians. His future engagements include a return to the London Classical Solosist and Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra, and several concerts with York Cantores, Halifax Chamber Orchestra and The Péti Consort.
